Television and film producer Ekta Kapoor, along with her mother Shobha Kapoor, has found themselves at the center of controversy after a case was filed against them under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case stems from allegations that explicit scenes involving juvenile girls were shown in an episode of their web series Gandi Baat. Both Ekta and Shobha, as well as their production house Alt Balaji, are currently under investigation by the Mumbai Police. Case Filed Against Ekta and Shobha Kapoor
The POCSO Act case against Ekta Kapoor and her mother was initiated based on accusations that their web series Gandi Baat included inappropriate and obscene content featuring minor girls. The Mumbai Police filed the case against the duo and Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited, prompting an immediate investigation. Clarification Issued by Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited
In response to the allegations and the media coverage surrounding the case, Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited issued an official statement on behalf of the company. The statement asserted that the company, as well as its production, is fully compliant with all legal regulations, including the POCSO Act. "With reference to various media reports regarding the Web Series ' Gandi Baat, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. ('Company') hereby clarifies that it is fully compliant with all applicable laws, including the POCSO Act, and any references to the engagement of minors by the Company is entirely incorrect," the statement read. Further distancing Ekta and Shobha Kapoor from the issue, the statement clarified that neither of the two is actively involved in the day-to-day operations of Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited. The operational management, including the content strategy, is handled by a separate team. 'It is further clarified that Mrs. Shobha Kapoor and Ms. Ektaa R Kapoor are not involved in the day-to-day operations of the Company, and the same are managed by separate teams, including its content strategy,' the company explained. The company also expressed its confidence in the judicial process and stated that they are fully cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigation. However, since the matter is sub-judice (under judicial consideration), they refrained from making further comments at this time. According to reports, Ekta and Shobha Kapoor were summoned by the Mumbai Police for questioning on October 22, 2024. Additional rounds of questioning are scheduled to take place on October 24, as the investigation continues. The allegations against Ekta Kapoor, her mother Shobha Kapoor, and Alt Balaji Telefilm Limited under the POCSO Act have garnered significant attention. While the production house has denied any wrongdoing and emphasized their adherence to the law, the investigation by the Mumbai Police is ongoing. Both Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are cooperating with the authorities, and further developments in the case are expected in the coming days.
