Cast: Himesh Reshammiya, Prabhu Deva, Kirti Kulhari, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever, Rajesh Sharma, Sunny Leone, Simona J

Director: Keith Gomes

Rating: ***

Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravi Kumar boldly sets the tone right from the start with a disclaimer - “Logic Is Optional.” This statement perfectly encapsulates what the movie offers: an unapologetic mix of high-octane action, dramatic dialogues, and 80s-style entertainment that never fails to keep audiences engaged. With its larger-than-life protagonist and over-the-top narrative, the film fully embraces its mission to deliver unfiltered masala entertainment.

A High-Powered Plot with a Nostalgic Touch

The storyline follows Ravi Kumar, a fearless and rule-breaking cop who sees himself as a true patriot. His unconventional methods for catching criminals set him apart, and his powerful dialogue delivery intimidates his enemies. The central conflict arises when he goes head-to-head with the notorious and unhinged gangster Carlos (played by Prabhu Deva). Carlos and his gang are after a crucial high-security reel that could compromise national security. Ravi’s relentless pursuit to protect this asset leads him down a path filled with shocking revelations about his past.

Unfiltered Entertainment and Mass Appeal

One of the film’s strongest points is its ability to not take itself too seriously while ensuring an entertaining, action-packed experience. The dialogues, written by Bunty Rathore, perfectly capture the essence of a larger-than-life protagonist. Lines like “Jo Ravi Kumar se ulajhta hai, uske photo pe haar chadh jaata hai” amplify the film’s flamboyant nature, ensuring a thrilling watch for fans of the genre.

However, while the first half keeps the momentum high with action and gripping dialogue, the second half slightly falters due to prolonged song and dance sequences. A particular scene where Himesh Reshammiya’s character disguises himself on the ground to steal a necklace stretches the “Logic Is Optional” concept to its limits. Additionally, a climactic song sequence seems misplaced, but given the film’s tone, it aligns with Ravi Kumar’s over-the-top universe.

Performances - Himesh Reshammiya’s Star Power

Himesh Reshammiya owns the character of Ravi Kumar with a blend of mass appeal, swagger, and relentless energy. His performance ensures that there is never a dull moment. Meanwhile, Prabhu Deva delivers an electrifying performance as the psychotic antagonist, making the rivalry an engaging spectacle.

Unfortunately, the supporting cast remains underutilized. Despite having seasoned actors like Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever, Kirti Kulhari, and Rajesh Sharma, their roles feel secondary. Simona J, playing the love interest, struggles with emoting, making her character the weakest link, despite her charming presence.

Visual Effects, Music, and Action - A Throwback to the 80s

While the VFX and action sequences may not be cutting-edge, they align with the film’s nostalgic 80s masala theme. The background score is catchy and energetic, but apart from “Tere Pyaar Mein,” none of the songs leave a lasting impact. The action scenes, though exaggerated, cater perfectly to the film’s mass-appeal formula.

Final Verdict - A Film That Knows Its Audience

Badass Ravi Kumar is a movie that proudly embraces its extravagant, logic-defying nature. It doesn’t aim for realism but rather focuses on delivering pure entertainment. While the narrative has its flaws, the film succeeds in giving audiences exactly what it promises - a thrilling, dialogue-heavy, and action-packed spectacle.
