Bollywood stars have their impact all over and Eid ul-Adha, which is being celebrated today, is no different. Sacrificial goats named after actors Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan are being sold at places where people follow Bollywood, be it India, Pakistan, UAE or even America.

The festival also known as Bakra Eid is a day when goats and at some places even other animals are sacrificed and then feasted at mass functions. The earlier tradition involved sacrificing camels which could be savoured by the whole village. However, the changing times resulted in smaller animals being sacrificed and hence the goats.

The Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan named goats are fetching the maximum price. The price of a normal un-named goat is Rs 15000. Noshad Salmani, who runs a saloon in Chandigarh and goes to his village every Eid discloses that the sacrificial goats are available at a price varying from Rs 10,000 to Rs 70,000 depending on the health, height and the looks of the animal. The highest priced goat can yield 35 kg meat.

Amjad Ali, a goat seller from Malerkotla the Muslim majority town of Punjab says that they get their goats from Bulandhshahar which are healthy and glossy.

The trend of naming the goats after the names of celebrities is not a new practice. Last year, a pair of goats named Saifeena (after star couple Saif and Kareena Kapoor) was reported to have been sold for Rs 4 lakh at the Jama Masjid market in Delhi.

Shafquat Ali owner of a restaurant in Delhi says that he remembers goats being named after Dalip Kumar whose real name was Yusuf Khan. Sellers decorate these goats to lure buyers. The horns are painted in bright colours and colourful anklets are tied.

Mohammad Quateel of Old Delhi discloses that he had bought two Ajmeri goats named Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.

Ordinary healthy 'Bakras' are also fetching good price on this festive day. Says Naseer Ahmed, who owns a meat shop that he has just sold a 'Bakra' for Rs 5 lakh. A camel reportedly was sold for Rs 16 lakh in Pakistan where a decent car is available for Rs. 7 lakh.

The increased price is not only commanded by the animals but even the butchers who exorbitantly charge Rs 4,000 to Rs 6, 000 per animal. I think it is natural that these prices are shooting up as even the troika of Aaamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan are jacking up prices with subsequent movie hits!
